Davidson's West Branch Rocky River Greenway Opens May 21

The ceremony begins at 1 p.m. Guests can access the greenway at the southern end of Shearer Road in Davidson.
Charlotte, NC - The Town of Davidson along with the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and Davidson Lands Conservancy will host a grand opening ceremony for the new West Branch Rocky River Greenway on Saturday, May 21, 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Director Jim Garges will welcome guests shortly after 1 p.m., and members of the Davidson Lands Conservancy (DLC) will lead walking tours of the greenway trail focusing on unique wildlife and habitat. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Nature Preserve staff will also lead walking tours of the adjacent West Branch Nature Preserve. If you plan to participate in a tour of the Nature Preserve property, please bring clothes and shoes for off-trail hiking.

Access to the greenway will be provided at the southern end of Shearer Road in Davidson. Please park at the edge of Shearer Road near the barricade to the River Run Phase V development. Pedestrians and cyclists will be permitted through the barricade to access the greenway. All activities will be start near the Shearer Road Bridge and greenway crossing. Other activities will include bike rides and scavenger hunts, and information will be provided on area greenways and bikeways.

The new greenway is part of the Carolina Thread Trail network.

Construction of the West Branch Rocky River Greenway was funded by federal stimulus dollars authorized by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2008.
