Department representatives presented a timeline for construction, which is expected to begin this fall and be completed by summer 2015.
The 4 ¼-acre park will be built across from ImaginOn, between East 7thand Brevard streets, near the UNC Charlotte uptown campus. Public parking will be constructed on 10th Street.
“This park will redefine the First Ward area of uptown, adding much needed green space for nearby residents, employees, and UNC Charlotte students to enjoy,” said Jim Garges, director of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation.
First Ward Park is the culmination of a joint partnership between Levine Properties, UNC Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte. The project master plan is on the Park and Recreation website.
