July is National Park and Recreation Month
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation is the natural place to be. The department, which won the 2012 NRPA Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management, provides activities and programs for all ages.

Romare Bearden Park
Join Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation in celebrating the much anticipated grand opening of Romare Bearden Park, located on South Church Street in uptown Charlotte. The festivities begin Friday, August 30 and will continue throughout the Labor Day Weekend, just in time for what would be the internationally known artists' 102nd birthday. This birthday bash will feature various genres of art, music, dance and activities for all ages. The celebration will serve
as a preview for the types of events the park will host year-round.
