The award is based on the number of lost work day cases an organization incurred in the previous calendar year.
To qualify, an organization must achieve a CDAW (cases with days away from work) rate that is at least 50% below the statewide average or the applicable industry classification.
The award will be presented to the department by Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry at the Annual Safety
Awards Banquet in Charlotte in April.
Park and Recreation has been a certified NCDOL “Carolina Public Sector STAR” site since 2008. The STAR Program encourages management, labor, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to work together to reduce injuries and illnesses in the work place and provides recognition for continuing improvement to safety and health programs. Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department was the first Park and Recreation agency in North Carolina to receive the Carolina Public Sector Star Award.
