The park, which is being constructed at the corner of South Church and 3rd streets, will serve as a hub for cultural arts and fitness activities in uptown Charlotte.
The postponement means that the park will now open right before the Sept. 2 birthday of the late artist
and native Charlottean. Bearden was born in 1911 and passed away in 1988.
Grand opening festivities will include live music, children’s activities, street performances, garden tours and much more.
“We appreciate everyone’s patience as we complete the construction process of the park,” said Jim Garges, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation director. “We are very excited about the vast array of cultural arts programs that will be offered at the park.”
