Park and Recreation 2008 Bond Referendum
Message from Jim Garges, Director
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department

We are grateful that Mecklenburg County voters passed $250-million in Park and Recreation bonds November 4 with almost 62% support. It means we can make a substantial start on our 10 year Master Plan to improve recreation facilities to meet the needs of Mecklenburg's growing population. We plan to build or improve more than 60 facilities and to buy $60-million worth of additional land for recreation and/or preservation. We are guided in setting our priorities by an extensive citizen survey and an ongoing series of public "workshops" to seek citizen participation. The bonds will benefit all parts of Charlotte and Mecklenburg. We will use bond funds to fulfill the aspirations of our residents for better recreation, fitness, and fun for their families. We appreciate the commitment, hard work, and trust of bond supporters. We salute the vision of the voters.
