​Newtown Memorial Playground

Park and Recreation will construct a playground at Park Road Park to memorialize the students and teachers lost in the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. Construction will begin later this year. To volunteer, contact To make a donation, click here.
Hats Off to Parks4th Annual Hats Off to Parks, May 2nd, 5-8:30pm Romare Bearden Park
To kick off the Inaugural RomareFest, May 2-4, Romare Bearden Park will host the Annual Hats Off to Parks Event. Funds raised will help Partners for Parks, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and partners like you build a playground in memory of the youth and teachers lost in the Newtown, Connecticut, tragedy. Over 2,500 Volunteers will help complete the playground this October. Hats Off will feature wonderful food and desserts, cash bar, reverse raffle and special entertainment by the Tams! Tickets may be purchased by check or online at under the Hats Off to Parks donation fund.
*Advance Admission and Raffle Tickets may be purchased before April 23rd to receive via mail. All other tickets must be purchased day of.
