Summer is just around the corner, Latta Plantation, McDowell, and Reedy Creek Nature Centers are planning fun and exciting camps. To make sure that your camper has a great time we need your registration packet back to us no later than June 1.
Scaly Slimy Spectacular
Interested in creatures that are scaly and slimy? Join us for this exciting camp where we become Herpetologists and explore the world of reptiles and amphibians. Get up close and personal with some of our residential herps and be prepared to visit them in the wild as well!

Great Big World
It's a great big world out there and this is your chance to learn all about it! In this camp, we'll go creek stomping, build a den, and meet some of the critters that call Latta Plantation Nature Preserve their home. Every day we'll explore a fun new place in the preserve!

Junior Biologist Camp
What is a Biologist? Join us for this exciting week as campers become biologists and study the natural world around them from plants to animals. We'll study insects, mammals, scat and tracks, and learn how to use naturalist tools like microscopes, insect nets and hand lenses. We'll also enjoy a fun day of canoeing as we study a lake habitat.

Young Explorers Camp
Not sure if your child is ready for a full day at camp? Then this half-day version of our ever-popular Outdoor Adventure Camp is just what you're searching for! Each day will focus on a different outdoor recreation activity. Campers will explore the nature preserve by going hiking, canoeing, hunting for hidden treasure (geocaching), and more.

Outdoor Adventure Camp

Each day, campers will learn about a different group of animals and the habitats they live in. At the end of the week, we'll take our discoveries off-site in a fun field trip!

Paddlesport Adventure Camp
Stay cool this summer! Explore Mountain Island Lake and the Catawba River by canoe, kayak, and stand up paddleboard! This water-based camp allows campers to learn paddlesport skills from American Canoe Association (ACA) Certified Instructors. Topics will include water safety, equipment, maneuvers, rescues, environmental stewardship, kayak fishing and more. After mastering the skills on the lake, paddlers will go on two river adventure trips on the Catawba River. To register for this camp, campers must have strong basic swimming skills (i.e. be able tread water for at least one minute and swim a pool-length unassisted).

Mountain Sports Adventure Camp
Back by popular demand is the high energy Mountain Sports Adventure Camp. This year, we'll take a trip by river from Cowan's Ford Wildlife Refuge to Latta Plantation Nature Preserve, shred some single-track mountain bike trails, and climb some rock at Crowder's Mountain State Park. Then as a grand finale, we'll load up the van and take a canoe camping trip Thurs. – Fri. on Falls Reservoir in the beautiful Uwharrie National Forest. Parents prepare to be jealous!

Piedmont Expedition Camp
The expeditions we take in this camp will build your child's outdoor skills and self-confidence. We'll learn survival skills, Leave No Trace methods, go canoeing, hike a stream, and much more. This fast-paced camp will be a physically intense week focused on outdoor adventure and excitement!

Itty Bitty Camp
Little ones and their favorite adult play and learn together, using all their senses to explore the natural world. Each day includes 1-2 themes, games, live animals, crafts, songs and a snack. Parent participation required.

Little Critter Camp
Young children who are crazy about nature love to get outside and get messy. Choose AM or PM per theme.Wondrous Wildlife campers discover their wild side as they learn about native animals, big and small. Forest Floor participants explore the woods, top to bottom, to see what makes it such a great habitat.

Outdoor Explorers Camp
Adventurous and curious campers venture far and wide to discover the wonders of nature. Choose 1 week per theme. Animal Care campers learn what it takes to care for a variety of wild and captive animals. Camp concludes with a camper-led live animal show! Jr. Naturalists immerse themselves in the outdoors, becoming stewards of nature as they learn about native plants, animals and habitats.
Pre-teens can expect to challenge themselves physically and mentally as they deepen their understanding of the natural world.
Nature VentureGo on a different Nature Venture every day! Playing and learning go hand-in-hand as campers try Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, creek walking, geocaching and more. By immersing themselves in the outdoors, campers see how much fun nature can be.

Coastal ExplorersCampers get their toes sandy on this new adventure while they discover how the ocean connects us all. On Monday, they’ll dive into some marine biology and learn how to seine and cast net, identify coastal critters, and set up beach camp. Then they’re off to Huntington Beach State Park for 3 days and 2 night of unforgettable fun and learning.
