Residential Waste Reduction And Recycling

Residential Recycling in Mecklenburg County

Waste reduction, or waste prevention, is reducing the amount and/or toxicity of waste before it's generated. Waste reduction is not an activity like recycling, but rather a number of things you can do (or not do) to create less waste.

Mecklenburg County has been recycling since 1977 and has a widespread and effective residential recycling program that includes curbside recycling in Charlotte and the Mecklenburg Towns and a network of eight drop centers. But recycling alone isn't enough to sufficiently reduce the amount of waste going to landfills. To achieve that, Mecklenburg County is encouraging residents to practice both recycling and waste reduction
