December 23, 2011: AVOID THE INTEREST, PROPERTY TAXES DUE BY JANUARY 5, 2012. 

Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County residents are reminded that property tax payments must be paid on or before Jan. 5, 2012 to avoid interest charges. If mailed, the payment must be postmarked by the United States Postal Service, not metered, on or before that date. Residents are also reminded that County offices are closed on Monday, Dec. 26, Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 and Monday, Jan. 2, 2012.

 

August 25, 2011:  TAX BILLS TO BE MAILED ON MONDAY.  More than 360,000 bills for real, personal and business property property.

Charlotte, NC – Property owners will begin receiving their real property, business personal property and individual personal property tax bills next week. The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector will mail 361,281 bills on Monday.



July 26, 2011:  TAX COLLECTOR’S OFFICE UNVEILS NEW ONLINE PRIVILEGE LICENSE SEARCH
 
Charlotte, NC – The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector’s Office has added a new privilege license “search” feature to its online services website. Users can search for a business to find out if they have paid their privilege license tax by business name, owner name or business address, and see the status of their tax bills.


May 23, 2011:  July 1, 2011 Deadline to Renew Business Licenses in Mecklenburg County

Charlotte, NC – There are more than 50,000 businesses in Mecklenburg County and most are required to have a local “privilege license,” also known as a business license. All business licenses in Mecklenburg County expire on June 30, 2011. The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector is preparing to mail notices to these businesses to remind them to renew their privilege licenses, which are due on or before July 1, 2011 to avoid penalties.

February 23, 2011: Privilege License Taxes, Gross Receipts Taxes, Yard Sale Licenses, and Other Taxes Now Accepted Online

Charlotte, NC – Internet-savvy business taxpayers now have an easy-to-use online option when it’s time to fulfill their tax obligations. The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector recently unveiled a new online payment system for business taxpayers. Until recently, payments for privilege/business licenses, beer and wine licenses, taxi cab licenses, prepared food and beverage taxes, room occupancy taxes, vehicle rental taxes, heavy equipment taxes, and yard sale licenses were only payable by mail or in person.
January 5, 2011: Last Day To Pay Property Taxes Without Interest
Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County residents are reminded that property tax payments must be paid on or before January 5, 2011 to avoid interest charges. If mailed, the payment must be postmarked by the United States Postal Service, not metered, on or before that date. Residents are also reminded that County offices are closed on Friday, December 31. Those taxpayers who wish to pay taxes in person prior to the end of the year must do so on or before December 30.
November 11, 2010 - UNPAID COUNTY TAXES SENT TO STATE FOR COLLECTION

CHARLOTTE, NC—The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector reminds property owners that if they have not yet paid their real estate, individual personal property, and vehicle taxes for the year, their tax bills will go to the North Carolina State Department of Revenue for collection.

The Debt Setoff Collection Act allows for the County to notify the State of delinquent taxes. Any state income tax refund due the taxpayer may be applied to the debt. A $15.00 collection fee will be added to the bill if it is submitted for setoff. To avoid collection action, the property owner must pay the bill immediately upon notification by mail, or request a hearing within 30 days. An appeal hearing form is enclosed with the delinquency notification. There are roughly 113,000 tax bills that are eligible for the Debt Setoff program.

August 17, 2010 - MECKLENBURG COUNTY TAX BILLS IN THE MAIL ON AUGUST 25

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector will mail tax bills to approximately 379,300 property owners and mortgage companies on August 25, 2010.

Tax bills are mailed directly to the owner of the property as of Jan. 1, 2010 or the mortgage company that requested the bill for property owners with tax escrow accounts.  Property owners who escrow their property taxes with a mortgage company will receive a property tax notification from the Tax Collector.  These owners should review the notice carefully to ensure the bill was sent to the correct mortgage company.
June 7, 2010 - MECKLENBURG COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR OFFICE TAKES ACTION TO COLLECT DELINQUENT TAXES
Charlotte, N.C. – Many taxpayers in Mecklenburg County have paid their local real estate, personal property and registered motor vehicle bills. More than $1.2 billion in tax revenue has been collected for taxes due in the current fiscal year for all jurisdictions, but there remains more to collect.

The Office of the Tax Collector has been working diligently to collect all the delinquent taxes owed to the County, City of Charlotte and other municipalities.

“It has been necessary to utilize the enforced collection remedies granted to us by state law,” said Tax Collector Neal Dixon. “A majority of taxpayers have found a way to pay although they have been affected by the current economic conditions. Those who paid should know that we are working to collect from those who have not paid.”

 

June 3, 2010- BUSINESS LICENSE RENEWALS DUE BY JULY 1, 2010

 

Charlotte, NC - If you operate a business in Charlotte or Mecklenburg County, you are required to obtain a license and renew it every year unless the business is specifically exempted by law.

 

February 15, 2010 - DEADLINE TO PAY COUNTY TAXES BEFORE PUBLICATION IN THE NEWSPAPER
Charlotte, NC - About 54, 000 Mecklenburg County property owners who have not yet paid their 2009 real and personal property tax bills will soon have their names and the amount they owe published, as required by state law, in The Charlotte Observer if payment is not received by Friday, Feb. 19, 2010.
October 2, 2009 - MECKLENBURG COUNTY ELIMINATES FEE FOR USE OF eCHECK TO PAY TAXES ONLINE
Charlotte, N.C. – The Mecklenburg County Tax Collector's Office has eliminated the cost to taxpayers associated with making eCheck property and vehicle tax payments online.
September 2, 2009 - Some County Mortgage Letters List Tax Service Companies; all are CORRECT

Charlotte, N.C. - In late August, the Mecklenburg County Tax Office mailed 170,471 property tax notifications to taxpayers who have their local real estate taxes paid by a mortgage company. The notice informs the taxpayer of how much their bill is, and which mortgage company has requested the bill.

March 18, 2009 - March 31 - Deadline to Pay County Taxes Before Publication in the Newspaper

 

Charlotte, N.C. – More than 38,000 Mecklenburg County property owners who have not paid their 2008 real or personal property tax bills will have their names and the amount they owe published in The Charlotte Observer if payment is not received by Tuesday, March 31, 2009.
