The Casey Family Program and the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services entered into an agreement in 2010, collaborating to improve outcomes and impact of families, improve Disproportionality and Disparity of African American children who enter care and support families that receive services to sustain the family unit. DSS contracted with Thompson Child and Family Focus Organization to provide services.
The Family Partner Program engages family partner staff to preserve families by using front-end engagement and focusing upon in-home services. The program provides staff to assist parents through the child welfare system by sharing information, clarifying child welfare and other agency policies and processes and modeling behavioral change. Family Partner staff encourages parental involvement in development of and cooperation with family service agreements to retain custody of their children and reduce risk in the home.
This past calendar year one of our very own family partners Antinette Blocker, Thompson Child and Family Focus, was nominated by the Community Resource Division for the Casey Birth Parent Award. Out of 28 nominees across the nation, she was selected to receive the award. Antinette was flown to Seattle Washington by Casey Family Program in January 2013, where she proudly represented Mecklenburg County and received the award. Mecklenburg County, the Department of Social Services, and the Thompson Child and Family Focus Organization are very fortunate to have Antinette and all of the family partners who provide services to our families.
