The Economic Services Division administers federal- and state-mandated programs for eligible families.

• Food & Nutrition Services (FNS): Provides food assistance to households with limited income and resources. The amount of the benefit is dependent on several factors, including the number of household members, income, rent and utility expenses.
• Medicaid for Families and Children: Program to cover medical care and services for several categories of people who are unable to afford the costs of health care. Eligibility is dependent on a family’s income and resources. The program serves children, up to age 20; parents caring for children under age 19; pregnant women.
• North Carolina Health Choice: Provides comprehensive health insurance through the federal Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) to uninsured low-income children whose family does not qualify for Medicaid due to monthly income.
• Adult Medicaid: Helps pay for medical expenses, In-home Assistance for personal care, Group Home Care, and Nursing Home Care for eligible adults. Note: Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients are automatically
  eligible for Medicaid. 
• Work First Family Assistance: Provides opportunities to program participants to become self-sufficient, while improving the economic security and well-being of the entire family.
• Work First Employment Services: Provides Work First Family Assistance customers with job training, child care services, job coaching and mentoring to assist them on their path to self-sufficiency.
• First Floor Services: First point of contact for clients visiting DSS. Staff serve as a liaison between the worker and client, provides eligibility information as well as information about the initial application process.

• Customer Connection Call Center: Manages incoming calls from individuals who receive benefits through Social Services as well as those seeking information about Social Services or resources available in the community.  The public can reach Customer Connection by calling 704-336-3000.
