DSS- Youth and Family Services Division
In 1990, I began working for a private agency in Dobbs Ferry, NY called St. Christopher’s-Jennie Clarkson which was a foster care/adoption agency. It was here that I decided I liked the field of working with children and families and wanted to make a difference in their lives.
After three years of working in foster care I moved on to the adoption unit in the same agency for the next twelve years and found my love for seeing families become a unit through the adoption process. It was amazing how many children needed a family; as well as, how many families needed and wanted a child. When St. Christopher-Jennie Clarkson closed down I decided that my chance to continue working with families was not finished and that I needed to continue to assist others.
In May 2005 my family and I moved to Charlotte, NC where I began a new journey with YFS. A job was offered to me in the Permanency Planning Unit and I felt that this was how I would continue to help others.
It still amazes me, and gives me joy, when a child or a teen blossoms positively. This is especially poignant because of the differences that I am able to make through putting appropriate services into place that puts a smile on that child/teen again. It is also a wonderful satisfaction watching a birth parent begin to make better choices for him or her in order to be reunified with their child or children.
