Livable Communities Plan

The Mecklenburg Livable Communities Plan is a joint initiative between Mecklenburg County, the City of Charlotte, surrounding Towns, and our private and non-profit sector partners to work collaboratively toward implementing the community developed unified vision and strategies that centered on how we live, work, and play today and into the future. This collaborative effort provides an opportunity to review existing plans and identify commonalities that encourage and support a vibrant and healthy quality of life of our community.

Recognizing the potential partnership between local government and community partners and the benefits of having a coordinated plan for the community, the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners approved moving forward with this Plan Process in early 2015.

The Mecklenburg Livable Communities Plan was developed via a phased approach that will continue as we collaborate around implementation, including:

  • Partner workgroups to ensure community level development and collaboration of the actions, measures, and goals used in implementing the Plan.  Partner workgroups will be comprised of the local government, private and non-profit sector Partners participating in the Plan.
  • An oversight committee to guide Partner workgroup efforts to align efforts across topic areas within the Plan, make final recommendations on implementation that provide policymakers a strategy to organize and communicate common goals that produce a better quality of life.
  • Continued community outreach and engagement through processes such as community surveys, small group feedback sessions, community meetings, website public forums, etc. as products arise from the Partner workgroups.

The Mecklenburg Livable Communities Plan will result in new and better ways for local governments to work together and collaborate with our community partners to better the quality of life for the entire Mecklenburg community.  For more information please visit http://livablemeck.com.
