​Board Quarterly, George Dunlap (May 2017)

​So far, 2017 has been a very productive year in Mecklenburg County’s District 3. To date, I’ve hit the road for dozens of community appearances and have thoroughly enjoyed meeting those I serve from the Board of County Commissioners. Below, you’ll find a log of my recent visits and a few pictures of the community interaction. Thank you to everyone who has shared their comments and ideas, I sincerely appreciate all of your feedback.

11-12 Attended NC Legislative Goals Conference to support goals of our association and those of Mecklenburg County. I spoke to the issue of raising the age of Juveniles entering the Juvenile Justice System.

14 Participated in the Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade

16 Attended the MLK Breakfast 

19 Visited Allenbrook School to view its education model

22 Served at guest speaker at Dilworth Methodist Church for lesson on Diversity and Inclusion

23 Met with the Eastway City Neighborhood Partners

26 Spoke at Congresswomen Alma Adams Swearing In

14 Attending the NCACC Board meeting in Raleigh

18 Performed the swearing in ceremony at the Volunteer Fire Fighters Association 

22 Introduced as Black History speaker at Prosperity Creek Senior Center

22-25 Attended NACO Legislative Session in Washington DC and had breakfast with NC officials including Congresswoman Alma Adams, Senator Thom Tillis, and staff  of Congressman Robert Pittinger

23 Celebrated Read Week at Thompson Child Development Center by reading to a class

24 Joined the Druid Hills playground build

05 Joined Dedication Ceremony of the David Williamson Pavilion at Hornets Nest Park

12 Attended re-opening of the West Charlotte Recreation Center

19 Traveled to the NCACC Board Meeting in Lexington, NC

22 Attended the University City Wine Festival

06 Participated in the Friendship Trays Golf Tournament 

09 Visited with the Fire Chief of the Robinson Volunteer Fire Department

10 Attended NC Legislative Day to discuss Mecklenburg County legislative agenda

11 Met with the Director of Charlotte Works to discuss barriers to employment and other issues

11 Attended a Town Hall meeting sponsored by Commissioner Trevor Fuller, held in District 3
