4/27/2017

MedicationNational Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is this Saturday, April 29. Mecklenburg County has four sites equpped with drop-off boxes for unused medication.

The new drop-off boxes are in the following locations:

  •  Matthews Police Department, 1201 Crews Rd., Matthews.
  • Mint Hill Police Department, 7151 Matthews-Mint Hill Rd., Mint Hill.
  • Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office – Jail North location, 5235 Spector Dr., Charlotte.
  • Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department – Main Office, 601 E. Trade St., Charlotte.

Keeping unused medication in the home increases the chances of access by small children and creates an opportunity for teens to experiment, often serving as a gateway to more highly addictive drugs. Here are a few ways to help keep your family safe when prescription drugs are in the home:

  • Don’t take medication for longer or in higher doses than needed.
  • Don’t mix a medication with other medications at the same time without medical need.
  • Don’t take medication not prescribed for you.
  • Understand your prescription.
  • Safely store your prescription medication in locations that are up high and out of sight.
  • When medication is no longer needed, dispose of the leftovers.
