Municipal Contractors
Some work performed by contractors for the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County has the potential to cause polluted discharges that are harmful to the environment, hazardous to the public health and against the law.

Examples of potentially-polluting activities include:
  • construction
  • street resurfacing
  • landscape maintenance
  • building maintenance
  • concrete work
  • janitorial services.
The City and County are committed to protecting our water resources and the overall environment. Contractors are expected to know and follow all environmental rules, and to implement pollution prevention best practices for their particular industry.

Best Management Practices (BMPs) for Municipal Contractors

This information sheet is a general and basic guide explaining best practices to prevent storm water pollution. It's considered a supplement to, not a substitute for, contract documents and laws.
